Veneers vs crowns — we won't push you to the wrong one

Most cosmetic dentistry work sold under the "Hollywood Smile" name in Turkey is actually a full set of zirconia crowns — not veneers. The difference matters: a crown wraps the entire tooth and removes significantly more healthy tooth structure than a veneer.

At Ultradiş we propose veneers when the teeth are healthy and the correction is cosmetic; we propose crowns only when there's genuine clinical need (large restorations, root canal treatment, fracture). The treatment plan is written, and the rationale for each tooth is explained before any preparation begins. If a case would be better served by clear-aligner orthodontics plus whitening, we will say that too.

How the treatment works

  1. 01

Photos and digital smile design (remote)

Send us a few photos by WhatsApp before flying. Our team prepares a digital smile design (DSD) preview and a written quote you can approve before booking the trip.

  2. 02

    Day 1 — consultation and mock-up

Clinical exam, digital scan, panoramic if needed. Mock-up of the proposed smile bonded onto your existing teeth temporarily — you see it in your face, in your mirror, before any preparation.

  3. 03

Day 2 — preparation and temporaries

Local anaesthetic, minimal enamel reduction (0.3–0.7 mm), digital impression, temporary veneers placed. You wear them for 3–5 days and tell us what you'd change.

  4. 04

    Day 6–7 — final fitting

Final veneers bonded with adhesive cement. Occlusal adjustment, polishing, photographs. You leave with the finished smile and written aftercare instructions.

What's included in every veneer treatment

  • Temporary veneers and try-in
  • Final E.max or porcelain veneers (your choice with clinical input)
  • Bonding, occlusal adjustment, polishing
  • Written treatment terms and care instructions
  • Remote follow-up guidance after treatment

Common questions

What's the difference between veneers and crowns?

A veneer is a thin layer of porcelain bonded to the front surface of the tooth. We typically remove only 0.3–0.7 mm of enamel — the tooth structure stays largely intact. A crown wraps the entire tooth and needs significantly more reduction. Veneers are for cosmetic correction of healthy teeth; crowns are for teeth that are heavily restored, root-canal treated, or fractured. Most cosmetic 'Hollywood Smile' work in Turkey is actually crowns, not veneers — we will always tell you which one we're proposing and why.

Are minimal-prep / no-prep veneers an option?

Yes, when the case allows. For patients with smaller teeth or teeth that need to come slightly forward, true no-prep veneers (like Lumineers-style) can work. For most British cosmetic cases — closing diastemas, correcting shape, lightening dark teeth — a minimal prep of 0.3–0.5 mm gives a more natural-looking result. We do not over-prepare healthy teeth to fit a generic 'smile pack'. If a case is better served by orthodontics + whitening alone, we will say so.

How long does the treatment take?

Most full-arch cosmetic cases need a 5–7 day trip: day 1 consultation, photos, digital smile design (DSD) and mock-up; day 2 preparation and temporary veneers; days 3–5 wear the temporaries, give feedback; day 6–7 fitting of the final veneers and finishing. For 1–4 single veneers a 4–5 day trip is enough. We can adjust the timeline if you need to be back in the UK by a specific date — tell us when you enquire.

How long do veneers last?

Clinical literature shows 10–15 years as a realistic expectation for well-made porcelain veneers in patients who don't grind their teeth and maintain good oral hygiene. We explain material choice, care responsibilities and bruxism risk in writing before treatment.

What happens after I fly back to the UK?

You receive written care guidance and can send photos if anything feels off after you fly home. If a veneer chips, debonds or feels high in the bite, we review the case and explain whether local care, remote monitoring or a clinic-side review is the right next step.
