- 3Surgical placement (Trip 1)
Under local anaesthetic, the implant fixture is placed in the jawbone. A single tooth takes 30–45 minutes; multiple implants up to 90 minutes. You go back to the hotel the same day with prescription painkillers and aftercare instructions in English.
- 4Suture removal & flight home
Sutures are removed 7–10 days after surgery when clinically indicated. We explain the safest removal plan before you fly home.

What is a dental implant, and why do dentists prefer it?
A dental implant is a small titanium screw placed into the jawbone, replacing the root of a missing tooth. Once it has healed (a process called osseointegration), an abutment and ceramic crown are fitted on top. The end result looks, feels and functions like a natural tooth — and unlike a bridge, it doesn't depend on damaging neighbouring teeth to stay in place.
Two structural advantages make implants the gold-standard solution. First, they preserve the jawbone — when a tooth is lost, the surrounding bone begins to resorb within months, and after a few years the change is visible in your face shape. An implant stops this resorption, because it transmits chewing forces back into the bone the way a natural root does. Second, implants don't compromise other teeth. Bridges require the dentist to grind down the two adjacent teeth to anchor the structure, weakening healthy tissue.
How brand choice actually affects the outcome
There are dozens of implant manufacturers on the market. A correctly placed local-brand implant outperforms a poorly placed Straumann. What if you don't have enough bone?
After a tooth is lost, the surrounding bone begins to atrophy. Long-term care: what determines a 20-year implant
Two things matter for long-term implant survival: daily home care (interdental brushes, floss, antibacterial mouthwash) and twice-yearly professional cleaning. The leading cause of late implant failure is peri-implantitis — inflammation of the tissue around the implant — which is almost always preventable with proper hygiene. Smoking is the second-largest risk factor; smokers have 2–3× higher implant failure rates in published studies, and we say so directly to every patient who smokes. We won't refuse treatment, but we will spell out the risk in writing.

Is the placement painful, and what is recovery like?+
The surgical placement is done under local anaesthetic — you won't feel pain during the procedure. Mild swelling and tenderness for 2–3 days afterwards is normal and managed with standard prescription painkillers. Most UK patients fly back the day after surgery without issue. Sedation is available for anxious patients on request.
How many trips to Turkey will I need?+
Most cases need two visits. Trip 1 (3–5 days): consultation, 3D CBCT scan, surgical placement of the implant fixture. Trip 2 (4–6 days, three to six months later): abutment, impressions, fitting of the final crown. If you've had bone grafting, the gap between trips is closer to six months.
